ZANACO ‘EVADE’ ARREST

…Late equaliser denies police outfit Nkwazi victory

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

SUPER sub Abraham Siankombo scored in injury time to rescue Zanaco from suffering a second consecutive defeat after they were held to a 1-1 draw by high flying Nkwazi in a week three Super Division match at Sunset Stadium.

Siankombo had cancelled out Lungson Mbewe's 236th minute goal which had given Nkwazi the lead in the first half.

The bankers who seemed to be unstable in both halves could have been the first to break the deadlock in the second minute when Moses Phiri missed a one on one chance as he sent his effort over the bar.

Nkwazi's Stephen Mutama almost broke the deadlock in the seventh minute but his effort on goal went over the bar.

With 15 minutes into the first half, Zanaco coach Chris Kaunda withdrew injured Chisamba Lungu for Siankombo as midfielder Langson Mbewe finally put Nkwazi ahead with a long range effort four minutes before the half hour mark.

Zanaco's chance to get the equaliser came in the 37th minute but it was unfortunate as Albert Kangwanda's weak shot went wide as the first half ended 1-0 in favour of visiting Nkwazi. In the second half, Pride Mwansa could have doubled Nkwazi's lead in the 58th minute but his long range shot was saved by Zanaco shot stopper Racha Kola.

As Zanaco failed to get the equaliser, Kaunda brought in Baba Basile and Nyimbili for misfiring Kangwanda and Kamanga respectively while Nkwazi coach Dennis Makinka introduced Davy Kalandanya for Erick Chomba.

As the game reached injury time defender Belchance Makiese's attempt on target took a slight deflection as the bankers won a corner.

With a minute before the final whistle, Siankombo restored parity as the two teams shared the spoils.

Meanwhile in the first fixture of the double header at the same venue, Green Eagles scored a late equaliser to draw 1-1 with Green Buffaloes.

Hosea Silwimba scored in the 90th minute to cancel Jack Chirwa's goal from a penalty in the 58th minute.

The stalemate propelled Eagles to seven points on par with Forest Rangers and Red Arrows who have also recorded two wins and one draw after three rounds of matches in the FAZ Super Division.
