- By SILUMESI MALUMO

THE law will take its course on all erring officers who have been cited in the Auditor General’s report for misappropriating public funds, Vice President Inonge Wina has said.

She said misappropriating public funds was a disservice the country.

Meanwhile, Ms Wina has urged the investor constructing the North-western rail line to ensure that the project materialised.

The Vice President assured the nation that erring officers would not be left scot free for misappropriating public funds.

She said that the public funds which were misappropriated were supposed to improve the wellbeing of the citizens.

Ms Wina told Parliament yesterday during the Vice President question time that punitive action would be taken against the officers.

She was responding to independent Chimwemwe Member of Parliament Elias Mwila, who wanted to know what Government would do to officers cited in the Auditor General report.

In response, the Vice- President emphasised that erring officers would not be left scot free because what they did was a disservice the country.

“The Secretary to the Cabinet gave a statement regarding on the issue of the Auditor General’s report and he indicated that punitive action will be taken against the erring officers,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ms Wina urged the investor undertaking the

North-western rail project to ensure that the project came to fruition. She was responding to UPND Chavuma MP Victor Lumayi who wanted to know whether the project was just a political matter or it would be implemented.

But Ms Wina said the projected was being undertaken by the private investor and Government had nothing to do with it.

She said Government did not know the progress made by the investor in ensuring that the project was implemented.
