‘Mopani clinic must extend operating hours’
RESIDENTS of Mukuba Natwange in Kitwe have appealed to Government to take over running of Natwange Mopani Clinic and extend operating hours.
The residents complained that the clinic which is in the hands of Mopani Copper Mine only operated from 07:30 up to 14:00 hours, a situation they said was inconveniencing.
One of the residents, Ms Esther Chanda, complained that the challenge was long overdue and needed quick intervention.
Ms Chanda wondered why the only health centre in the area could be closing in the afternoon when emergencies could happen at any time especially in the evening.
“We do not understand why the clinic closes at 14:00 hours. Does it mean illnesses are also supposed to wait until the following day when the clinic opens?” she wondered.
Another resident, Ms Sara Banda, complained that it was costly for them to look for transport so that they could access health centres in the neighbouring areas especially at night.
But Bupe ward aspiring councillor, Warren Mulenga, said he would engage the District Commissioner’s office and see how best the matter could be resolved.
Mr Mulenga said that he would push in a formal complaint to Government to engage Mopani to adjust the hours of operation.
