- By KALOBWE BWALYA

THE Lusaka City Council is disappointed that some residents along Tokyo Way area have been dumping waste indiscriminately and not subscribing to franchise contractors including LCC waste management team.

And Lusaka City

Council Public Health director Edgar Mulwanda has warned that anyone found dumping waste in undesignated places would be prosecuted.

Mr Mulwanda also warned all residents to subscribe to franchise contractors in their respective locations so that all the generated waste within their areas can be collected and not to be dumping waste where it is not supposed to be dumped.

He said he got disturbed when he took part in the Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy Campaign exercise which was conducted in Kamwala ward 5, along Tokyo Way in Kabwata constituency.

“We want everyone to subscribe to the franchise contractors so that indiscriminate dumping of waste is stopped because once you are found dumping garbage in unsubscribed area you will be taken to court,” said Mr Mulwanda.

And Mr Mulwanda appealed to all Lusaka residents to participate in the Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy campaign which comes every last Saturday of the month.

He said keeping the city clean should not only be left to the council alone, but residents must also take part to ensure that their surroundings were kept clean to avoid contracting diarrheal disease as it is rain season now.

Mr Mulwanda said cholera was as a result of indiscriminate disposal of solid waste by some residents who were careless in handling waste.

He said the local authority would not hesitate to prosecute any person found abrogating the law regarding garbage disposal.
