Melesiana gives water to Chilembwe village in Milanzi Constituency
THE people of Milanzi Constituency in Chilembwe village have received an early Christmas gift when the Chairperson for the Melesiana Phiri Foundation Mrs Melesiana Phiri Chibwe delivered a borehore.
Residents of Chilembwe village and surrounding villages with a population of over 3,000 people have been relying on one borehole and a few shallow wells for many years. This situation has had adverse effects on people especially the women who are forced to wake up as early as 04:00 hrs to queue up for water.
The residents requested Mrs Melesiana Phiri Chibwe to drill a borehole for them after seeing a number of philanthropic activities conducted by the Melesiana Phiri Foundation across Milanzi Constituency.
Melesiana who is in Milanzi Constituency to mobilize for voter registration took time to answer to the people's needs by providing a borehole.
Melesiana, said that she was excited to finally deliver on her promise to the people of Chilembwe village. She further indicated that drilling of the borehole was meant to benefit every other member of Chilembwe village and hoped that women found relief with the provision of the borehole.
"Provision of clean and safe drinking water to the people of Milanzi is one of the key priority areas for our foundation and resources permitting we envisage to drill more boreholes in each of the wards of Milanzi Constituency in order to supplement on government's efforts to improving the health of all Zambians." She said.
Scores of people from Chilembwe village and surrounding areas gathered to witness the drilling of the borehole.
Mr Raphael Phiri a representative of headman Chilembwe expressed happiness and gratitude on behalf of the women and people of Chilembwe village. He wished God's blessings on Melesiana and her foundation.
