Senior citizen builds mourners’ shelter
A SENIOR citizen in Mwinilunga has built a mourners’ shelter at the district hospital.
Abel Lukanganyama decided to contribute to the community using his resources as a way of supplementing Government’s effort in the delivery of social services.
Mr Lukanganyama has thus called on citizens to be patriotic through making personal contributions towards various needs in their communities.
He called on others to emulate the gesture by giving to the community, amenities that could supplement Government’s effort.
He said individual contributions to the community would reduce dependence on Government to address even small issues that could be done by individuals from personal resources.
Mr Lukanganyama said he felt compelled to build a mourners’ shelter at the hospital mortuary because of challenges people in the area go through as they collect bodies of their beloved ones, especially during the rainy season.
He added that using his resources, he had also embarked on constructing a cultural village as a recreation facility for people in the area.
“I stay here and I have seen the needs of the people around here where we are lacking as a community. So the mourners’ shelter was not there from time in memorial.
“It has never existed and because of people suffering during rainy season when escorting their beloved ones, that is what gave me a heart to come up with this mourners’ shelter,” Mr Lukanganyama said.
