Kanganja urges public to be safety concious
INSPECTOR General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has called for citizens’ safety and security to avoid being victims of unsafe environment during this festival season.
And Mr Kanganja has launched and rolled out the Government Service Bus, an electronic payments of public service vehicles being handled by the Zambia Police Service.
Speaking in Livingstone during the launch and roll out of Government Service Bus, Mr Kanganja said that festival season comes with a lot of excitement which needs to be guided and secured.
Mr Kanganja said, therefore, citizens should avoid unnecessary movements during this period in order to be secured.
“We need to recognise the fact that festival season comes with excitement, therefore, I want to urge citizens’ safety and security to avoid being victims,” he said.
“Avoid unnecessary movements during this festival season and with my command, there will be no officer who is going to be on leave so that we intensify patrols in our community,” Mr Kanganja said
He added that the Police Service will also intensify snap checkpoints and road blocks on the road.
“My command has cancelled all forms of leave until further notice so that we have adequate manpower to effectively enforce law and order during the festival period and beyond.
During this period, we will deploy a good number of officers to ensure that we rid our country of all forms of anarchy,” the IG said.
And Mr Kanganja has charged that the rolling out of the Government Service Bus and Gateway payment system has enhanced efficiency and productivity in the Zambia Police Service and the whole country at large.
He said that the Zambia Police Service is excited to be part of the innovation brought in by Smart Zambia because clients will now be able to access services together with other public services under the portal which he described as one stop shop.
Later in the day, the Inspector General of Police launched the Zambia Police Aerobics and fitness at Maramba Stadium.
