Chief Chiwala mourns Chief Fungulwe

-

THE Lamba-Lima Royal Establishment has called for calm among people in Fungulwe Chiefdom after the demise of their traditional leader.

Senior Chief Chiwala said the establishment has received the death of the late Chief Fungulwe with sorrow and sadness as he was a pillar and mentor to many chiefdoms.

ZANIS reports that senior Chief Chiwala said he expects nothing but peace upon the people in the chiefdom as doing so would mean mourning their fallen hero with dignity.

“We have lost a chief who has been there for quiet sometime to some of us. Therefore, what do we expect from our people in Fungulwe chiefdom, only calm and peace and later see a peaceful transition and succession ceremony,” Senior Chief Chiwala said.

He said Chief Fungulwe had been unwell for some time until his health failed him in the early hours of Sunday- December 13, 2020, at Kitwe Teaching Hospital.

Senior Chief Chiwala has described the late traditional leader as a mentor whose advice was relied upon by many chiefs in the province and beyond.

James Brown Kaswende ascended to the Fungulwe Chiefdom in 1974, and subsequently recognized by former and first President of the Republican, Kenneth Kaunda through statutory instrument number 192 of 1976. He was born in 1938, and at the time of his death, Chief Fungulwe had reigned over the Lamba-Lima people within his chiefdom for 46 years, making him the longest serving chief in the Copperbelt Province.

The late Chief will be put to rest in Fungulwe Chiefdom of Lufwanyama District on Saturday December 19, 2020. - ZANIS.
