- By MUKWIMA CHILALA

SPORTS betting company Betway Zambia has appointed former Zambia National Soccer Team captain and 2012 AfCON winner Chris Katongo as its brand ambassador in Zambia.

And Betway has also partnered with Katongo’s non governmental organisation, Christopher Katongo Foundation with a donation of an assortment of groceries and food worth K65, 000.

Betway Zambia Country Manager Panji Kakube says his company through its corporate social responsibility has partnered with Katongo’s NGO and appointed him brand ambassador so as to invest in projects aimed at uplifting the vulnerable in society.

“As a good corporate citizen we are cognizant of the fact that it is our sole responsibility to empower our local communities as we believe this is the right thing to do as a member of the business community. Betray has a standard practice in the community in which we operate to select an individual or individuals that embody the principles that guide our business module,” Kakube said.

These guidelines include responsibility, transperancy, commitment, dedication and resilience. Once such an individual is identified we take strides to towards engaging them as our brand ambassador. We are proud to present you Christopher Katongo as the Betway brand ambassador for Zambia.

And Kakube said that Katongo needed no introduction as his accolades spoke for himself.

And Katongo described the appointment of brand ambassador as humbling and says that his hardwork and dedication to duty has been recognised.

Katongo said that he shall continue to apply the determination and discipline even as a brand ambassador of Betway through the Christopher Katongo Foundation.

Determination and hard work has remained my main motivation as a player in Zambia, South Africa, Europe and even in China. I have carried this attitude into my career even as a coach and I continue to apply it to my lifestyle, said Katongo.
