Liutebm University to adopt digital learning technologies
LIUTEBM University has embarked on the adoption and implementation of digital technologies, processes and competences across all levels of its operations, Registrar Dr. Shamiso Mahohoma has said.
Speaking during the university’s graduation ceremony held recently, Dr. Mahohoma said starting next academic year, the business model, domain and organizational structure of the whole University, will be transformed to adapt to the changes currently obtaining across all spheres of life.
“Developing quality teaching and research methodologies requires excellent facilities and as Liutebm University, we are up to the task and are implementing the following; a complete online learning platform; the re-development of the E-library for use for research; the introduction of the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Degree and the construction of a complete fully fledged medical structure,” said Dr. Mahohoma.
He also took time to appeal to the government to extend the sponsorship of students to private universities as education is an expensive undertaking.
He said students from private universities also form an important part of the country’s workforce that helps in building the country hence the need to sponsor them as well.
And in his speech, Liutebm University Vice Chancellor Professor Patrick Kalifungwa echoed Dr. Mahohoma’s sentiments and emphasized that technology and innovation are inter- linked and are an important aspect in education.
Professor Kalifingwa said Technology and Innovation both focus on the creation of mental and physical effort in order to attain some value and the transformation of ideas into improved services or process.
“Prior to the introduction of the internet, it was argued that social networks had a crucial role in the diffusion of innovation particularly tact knowledge. It teaches us to combine resources to produce desired products to solve problems, fulfil needs or satisfy wants, “emphasized Professor Kalifungwa.
He said according to Edison, H.ETAL. 2014, organisations transform ideas into new improved products, services and processes in order to advance and differentiate themselves successfully in their market place.
Prof Kalifungwa also paid glowing tribute to the departed Liutebm University Board members Ms. Mushibwe, Errol Hickey and Prof Mutale Chanda.
