School upgrade cheers MP
NDOLA Central Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Mulenga, is happy that Government has increased the number of secondary schools in his constituency.
Mr Mulenga said this has enabled more learners to have access to secondary education.
The MP said before
2016, Ndola Central only had Kansenshi and Chifubu secondary schools providing secondary education.
Mr Mulenga was speaking when he inspected progress of works at a Constituency Development Fund funded classroom blocks at Kansenshi Combined School.
"This disadvantaged a lot of pupils who were forced to scout for secondary education from other areas because the only two secondary schools in the constituencies could only absorbed a thousand of learners each.
"Ever since I came into the office, we have worked hard with the Ministry of General Education, of course, through the guidance of President Edgar Lungu, to upgrade four schools to secondary level," Mr Mulenga said.
He named the upgraded schools as Chibolele, Mwabombeni, Kansenshi and Northrise School of Excellency combined schools in Chipulukusu, Twapia, Kansenshi and Yengwe wards respectively.
He added that to ensure adequate learning space was provided to the pupils, government had made sure that at least a 1 by 3 classroom block is erected.
However, Mr. Mulenga has ordered the contractor, to re- do the black board which he said was not befitting modern education requirements.
And Kansenshi Combined School Headteacher, Tione Phiri, thanked Mr Mulenga for having initiated the project of constructing classroom blocks.
One was fully complete and would be commissioned in January next year while the other one was at slab level.
Mr Phiri said since its upgrade to secondary level, the school has witnessed increased demand from the general public.
He added that the construction of the 2 by 3 classroom blocks would provide enough space for upper grades.
Mr Phiri, however, was quick to mention that the new classrooms would need furniture to enable pupils sit comfortably while in attending lessons.
