PF DECRIES VOTER REGISTRATION GLITCHES
THEruling Patriotic Front (PF) in Livingstone Constituency has described the just ended voter registration exercise by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) as a process which was faced with challenges.
Constituency Chairman, Thomas Kabanda, observed that the exercise had a number of glitches which disturbed the process.
Mr Kabanda charged that as a result of the challenges the exercise had, Livingstone Constituency failed to surpass the 2016 registered number of voters of 84, 109. During the just ended voter registration, Livingstone only managed to record 80, 403 out of a target of between 95,000 and 120, 000 going by growing population the tourist capital has seen. This shows a shortfall of 3, 706 registered voters in 2020 to beat the 2016 record.
However, Mr Kabanda was optimistic that out of the registered voters number, 80 per cent of people will cast their votes. Mr Kabanda was speaking when he and Constituency Youth Chairman Ikuka Muleta, mobilization committee member Lutangu Fwanyanga featured on a live programme on Radio
Mosi-oa-tunya yesterday.
He was hopeful that the ECZ has learnt something from the ended exercise.
Meanwhile, Mr Kabanda declared the ruling party ready for the January 4, 2021 Maramba Ward by-election.
He said this was because of the quality of its candidate Florence Lungowe Samasumo who the party has adopted to contest the seat which fell vacant after the resignation of former UPND Councilor Moses Simbaya.
