Nyimba completes input delivery

- By BUUMBA CHIMBULU

SERENJE District Commissioner Chunga Musonda is elated that Nyimba Investments completed the delivery of farming inputs for the 2020/21 farming season way ahead of the planting period.

As a result, he anticipated the district recording a better crop yield than in the previous seasons.

Mr Musonda said the decision to deliver in good time was in line with the presidential directive that inputs should be delivered early for the country to record a better crop yield.

He was speaking yesterday when Nyimba Investments Head - Sales and Marketing Manager Willings Mulendema paid a courtesy call on him.

Mr. Musonda said it was important that inputs for any particular season were delivered early to enable farmers access them ahead of the planting period.

“We praise President Lungu for ensuring that companies like yours (Nyimba) heed to this directive. As a result of the directive, inputs were supplied on time and the delivery too and as a district we are happy,” Mr Musonda said.

He said farmers would want Nyimba to replicate its good works during the 2021/22 farming season.

Mr Musonda said government wants agriculture to become the main economic stay and commodity companies should ensure they deliver inputs on time.

“It’s good to have Nyimba in Serenje and we hope even next season you can do the same. The government had contracted you to supply 3, 423.9 metric tonnes of Compound D fertiliser and you completed the entire delivery by September 15. This is how it should be,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr Mutale Moti of Kashamata cooperative, said he was happy that for the first time Serenje has received the entire quantities.

“We thank the government and our District Agriculture Coordinator (DACO) who has been working hard to ensure that everything went on well. This is the first time that we have input early,” said Moti.

He said that Nyimba Investment was working in tandem with the presidential directive of supplying and delivering inputs on time.

“We will be able to record a bumper harvest and this is what the president has been wanting. We commend Nyimba for the good works,” he said.District Agricultural Coordinator Jacob Shawa said Serenje would record a better crop yield owing to the early delivery of inputs. He said the majority of FISP beneficiaries were optimistic they would be able to have a better crop harvest.

Mr Shawa said farmers in the area were quickly adapting to conservation farming saying the development has equally led to improved crop yield.

“Conservation farming has many advantages as it saves on time and our farmers are benefiting a great deal,” he said.

Mr Shawa said the entire Serenje district had 20,274 beneficiaries of FISP during the 2020/21 farming season.

And Mr Mulendema said he was happy Nyimba managed to supply Compound D in the entire Serenje district before the planting season.

He said Nyimba was able to supply on time owing to early preparations saying even in the coming season, the company has already started procuring inputs.
