POLICE TO IMPOUND 32 BUSES USED IN HH SOLIDARITY PROCESSION

- By PETER SICHALI

POLICEhave said some criminal activities are beyond what meets the eye and are looking for the 32 buses hired to ferry cadres last week in the probe of events that led to the killing of two men, including a prosecutor.

Mr Nsama was gunned down atthe entrance of a restaurant off Independence Avenue while the second man, believed to be a UPND member was shot dead on the road between the restaurant and the National Prosecution Authority (NPA).

According to police, over 32 buses which were used to ferry cadres on Wednesday last week when UPND president, Hakainde Hichilema was being questioned at police headquarters in Lusaka.

Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said more than 32 bus loads of cadres were spotted on the day in question.

“More than 32 bus loads of cadres were spotted on that day and as police we have instituted investigations with the view of impounding all the buses that could have been involved in ferrying cadres,” Ms Katongo said.

Ms Katongo also urged the public to restrain from commenting on issues that they may not fully understand because they may end up sympathizing with perpetrators of heinous crimes.

“Some criminal activities are beyond what meets the eye. Being an institution charged with the security of the nation, we are privileged to have information which the public may not have and we do understand that it is during public disturbances such as illegal public gatherings that criminal minded people who could also be part of those assembled, would want to advance their criminal activities which may in the end lead to loss of life,” she said.

Ms Katongo said the motive of such criminal minded people was to have the blame shifted on government institutions with a view of pushing the agenda of discrediting such institutions for political mileage.

And former Deputy Minister at state house Blackson Sikanyika has urged police to be thorough in their Investigations on the shooting urging that they must get to the root of the killing.

Mr Sikanyika said police should be thorough and investigate the matter without leaving any stone unturned to understand what really transpired.

"The killing of the two people in unclear circumstances makes sad reading and we call upon police to thoroughly probe this matter and explore all possibilities to get the root of this," Mr Sikanyika said.
