We’ll nail foreign mercenaries, says State
WE shall corner the foreign mercenaries who are in the country to sponsor negative propaganda against Government ahead of the 2021 general elections, Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo has declared.
Mr Kampyongo said in an interview that the UPND had hired a team of foreigners to help concoct propaganda stories meant to tarnish Zambia’s reputation to the international community.
The minister, who was reluctant to disclose where the foreign mercenaries came from for fear of jeopardising investigations, said the law enforcement agencies were pursuing the matter.
“We are actually closing in, and before they leave the country, we will have to interrogate them why they are here and who hired them,” he said.
He said Government was aware that the UPND has a well-orchestrated plan aimed at causing anarchy in Zambia through propaganda.
The minister warned that all those that would be caught using propaganda and false statements to cause anarchy would be visited by the law.
Mr Kampyongo’s remarks comes barely 24 hours after nominated Member of Parliament Raphael Nakachinda accused the UPND president, Mr Hakainde Hichilema of trying to advance his political agenda through anarchy and bloodshed.
Mr Nakachinda said he had unearthed a scam in which the UPND has allegedly received huge funding for a plan called “the grand disputes of the 2021 elections” to sponsor anarchy through propaganda.
