Name PF well-wishers, NGO demands

- By ANDREW MUKOMA

GEARS Executive Director MacDonald Chipenzi has requested for the disclosure by names, the people who have paid for former and serving ministers salaries and allowances which they got after Parliament was dissolved in 2016.

Mr Chipenzi said in Livingstone that this was a way of demonstrating transparency to the public.

He said that failure to name the people who refunded salaries for the former and serving ministers would result in people being speculative and suspicious.

Mr Chipenzi therefore challenged PF Secretary General, Davies Mwila, to come out clearly so that the public could know.

"Patriotic Front Secretary General, Davies Mwila should not end at announcing that the pay back of the

allowances and salaries by former and serving ministers were done by well-wishers. The nation deserves to know who those well-wishers are.

"We say so because accountability and transparency is important in public affairs. Further we demand this because Government recently reviewed national laws to include monitoring money laundering and terrorism financing in the country," Mr Chipenzi demanded.

He said the public should be informed so that it was clear that the money was from genuine sources.

“Therefore, like Green Party President, Peter Sinkamba, disclosed as the funder of

Stephen Kampyongo and Musenge Mwenye's payback, there is no need for the SG to hide the well-wishers if their help was in good faith unless it is not," he charged.
