ARREST SPONSORS OF UPND ILLEGAL PROCESSION’

- By NOEL IYOMBWA

SPONSORS of the UPND illegal procession when party leader, Hakainde Hichilema, was summoned for questioning at force headquarters must be fished out and prosecuted, Zambia Republican Party leader Wright Musoma has said.

Mr Musoma said the prosecutions should not end with the cadres who were acting on instructions of their superiors.

He said the sponsors of such lawlessness should be fished out and prosecuted to deter others from financing terror activities.

Speaking in an interview, Mr Musoma said that it was unfair to hold on to buses because they can be hired by any political party.

He said the real culprits were the people who sponsored the cadres to illegally protest and hired the over 50 buses for them.

“Bus owners should only help police to identify the master minders, those who hired the buses, “he said.

He said that what happened was well planned because the police issued a warning that cadres must not be ferried, hence they should get to the bottom of everything.

“The owners of the buses must tell the police who are the master, minder who hired the buses no party is indispensable,” he said.

Mr Musoma has called on the police to speed up the investigations to ascertain who hired the buses.

But when contacted for a comment, Zambia Police spokesperson, Esther Katongo, said that police would only give information over the matter at an appropriate time.

“We will only give information on what we have done so far at an appropriate time we want to work quietly, “he said.

Zambia Police Service recently announced that it would impound all buses that were involved in ferrying cadres to police headquarters in Lusaka when Mr Hichilema was being interrogated.

Ms Katongo said more than 32 buses full of cadres were spotted during the procession

Mrs. Katongo further said that the loss of two lives during the commotion that happened was regrettable.
