- By SANFROSSA MANYINDA

THE National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) has assured the residents of Luanshya that it will make available the resources needed for the rehabilitation of the roads.

NRFA Director Monitoring and Evaluation Yohane Tembo, said his organisation had heard the cry of the residents in the mining town.

Mr Tembo said the resources would help fix the 15 kilometres road stretch which had been allocated to Luanshya out of the total 80km long roads which will be subjected to a complete makeover on the copperbelt.

Mr Tembo was speaking shortly after a road tour to see the state of the roads in Luanshya.

“We will try to look around for resources especially that you are the sole beneficially of the toll plaza in the neighborhood.

“Some of the challenges require quick fix, we cannot wait for the 1 kilometers that are coming to rehabilitate the roads. We will do our level best to provide the resources that are required in terms of repairing the roads,” he said.

Meanwhile, Luanshya mayor

Nathan Chanda expressed happiness with the coming on board of National Road Fund Agency in the renovation of roads in the district.

Mr Chanda commended the PF government on the coming on board of National Road Fund Agency in the renovation of roads in Luanshya.

“You have come at the right time because the people of Luanshya have complained bitterly over the state of the roads and as Mayor of Luanshya I agree with them because I am also a road user and I go through the same hardships that they are going through,” he said.

Mr Chanda further said that the Road Development Agency (RDA) was working hand in hand with the engineering department of Luanshya Municipal Council by mending potholes as part of the routine maintenance works which he said was not enough because the roads were beyond being maintained.

The City Father said the mining town was expecting about 20 km from the new contract township road project by AVIC and 40km from the Lusaka- Ndola dual carriage way which should cover the by-pass roads.
