AVOID PEOPLE BENT ON SELLING NATIONAL ASSETS - CHAMA

- By SILUMESI MALUMO

ZAMBIANS should not elect individuals preoccupied with selling national assets once they got into office, Minister of Defence Davies Chama has said.

Mr Chama said it was UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema’s statements and desire to sell the presidential jet had just shown Zambian people what kind of person he really was.

He maintained that Hichilema’s statements on sale of the Presidential Jet reckless.

Mr Chama said the security of Zambia would remain intact and would not be threatened by mere politicking of some desperate politicians.

Mr Chama said that the reckless statement by UPND president Hakainde Hichilema to sell assets will not distabilise the

Mr the are security of the country.

The minister said it was only important that the people of Zambia did not elect an individual who only had a mind of selling national assets.

He said in an interview “Such people if elected they can even sell State House to their brothers and cronies saying that it is old and we need to a new one.”

Mr Chama said national assets, whether for the defence force or not should not be tempered with because they were critical to the Zambian people.

“That aircraft this person is talking about cannot even go anywhere, this is the plane which all the Presidents who will come after President Edgar Lungu will be using. So we shouldn’t even waste our time to start championing cheap manifesto which has no benefit to Zambians,” Mr Chama said.

Mr Chama, therefore, challenged the media to concentrate on reporting on issues that would have a positive impact on the Zambian people instead of promoting meaningless issues.

He said the Patriotic Government had done a lot in terms of development which had an impact on Zambians and this is what the nation needed to know about.
