Chililabombwe vulnerable get relief food
THE Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has distributed 1,200 bags of mealie meal to vulnerable members of the community in Chililabombwe district.
Chililabombwe District Commissioner (DC) Roy Ngosa reiterated Government’s commitment to alleviating the suffering of vulnerable members of the community among them the elderly.
He was speaking when he flagged off the distribution exercise.
Mr Ngosa said members of the community were being sensitized to avert disasters such as floods by moving away from flood prone areas as the rainy season progresses.
Government, he said, would continue to assist the vulnerable households as their economic hardships had been compounded by the negative effects of COVID-19) which was currently in its second wave.
And Mother Angela Community School representative Sister Victoria Mwaba said the donation would go a long way in aiding the school’s feeding programme.
Sister Mwaba said the school, which is run by the Catholic Sisters, feeds over 300 children on a daily basis thus the donation of mealie meal will lighten the burden of fending for the vulnerable children.
Meanwhile an elderly beneficiary Henry Chikwanza urged Government to continue supporting the vulnerable members of the community as they struggled to fend for themselves due to various factors among them old age.
The beneficiaries, who were identified by the District Disaster Management committee included flood victims, former miners, church based organizations that take care of orphans and vulnerable children, widows and widowers as well as orphanages.
