Son hacks father to death

A 34-YEAR-OLD man of Kapiri Mposhi has axed his 70-year-old father to death on suspicion of practising witchcraft.

Police spokespersons Esther Katongo said the suspect on Thursday around 16:30 hours hacked his father, Mr John Muwowo, with an axe in the head killing him instantly.

Wina Muwowo killed his father and fled.. “Police in Kabwe received a report of murder in which Samuel Muwowo aged 39 of Chipepo area in Kapiri Mposhi reported that his father John Muwowo aged about 70 was murdered by his son, Wina Muwowo aged 34 on suspicion that he was a wizard.

"The suspect is on the run after leaving a suicide note indicating that he was going to commit suicide. A manhunt has been launched," Ms Katongo said.

She said Mr Muwowo’s body was deposited in Kabwe Central Hospital awaiting a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Police in Chililabombwe have arrested a man identified as Charles Phiri aged 24 in connection with the murder of Stanslous Chalwe Makofi aged 38 of Zambia Compound.

She said the victim was alleged to have stolen four plastic chairs and upon being apprehended, Phiri beat him and later took him to the police station with a deep cut on the forehead.

Ms Katongo said the police took the victim to Kakoso Hospital for medical attention where he later died.

Ms Katongo also said police have arrested Dorothy Sakala of Kitwe for allegedly scalding her ex-husband, Blessings Kasongo aged 32 of Chimwemwe Township with hot water.

“This happened when the victim went to his ex-wife’s house to warn her to stop going to his house. This infuriated the suspect who poured hot water on him. He sustained burns on the left side of the face, left shoulder, and on the back. He is admitted to Kitwe Teaching Hospital,” she said.
