Govt releases K2.3m for completion of Mbala Skills Centre

GOVERNMENT has released over K2.3 million Kwacha towards the completion of the youth skills training centre in Mbala.

Mbala District Commission­er, Maybin Chibalange says the K2, 340, 000 will be used to finalise works on the main building, and ablution blocks.

“The funds are meant to help us do final touches on the learning institutio­n whose works came to a standstill in 2011 due to lack of funds" Mr. Chibalange said.

He adds that the money will also be used to elect a wire fence around the institutio­n and drill a borehole among other works.

Mr. Chibalange disclosed this at a media briefing in Mbala.

Mr. Chibalange has since expressed happiness with the release of the funds to the district.

He explained that the release of the funds will enable the contractor complete remaining works, adding that this will also see the learning institutio­n opened to the public.

Mr. Chibalange has further urged Chella Company, the local constructo­r engaged in the project to finish the remaining works on time.

"Now that the money has been released, I’ am encouragin­g the contractor to speed up works which had stalled for a long time," he said.

And Mbala District Youth committee chairperso­n, Oliver Sichangwe has commended the government for releasing the funds to complete the constructi­on of the first youth skills center in the area.

Mr. Sichangwa said completion of the skills centre will enable youths in the area acquire life skills.

He explained that the centre will also help reduce youth’s engagement in illicit activities such as beer drinking.

"With the coming of the centre, youths will be kept busy unlike at the moment when they are free to be involved in various illicit activities," Mr. Sichangwe said.
