Chief Kachaka of Zambezi put to rest

CHIEF Kucheka of the Luvale people of Zambezi who died on 8 January 2021 has been put to rest at Kakwe royal grave.

Speaking during the burial in Zambezi Chiefs and Traditiona­l Affairs Minister, Lawrence Sichalwe described as a promoter of peace and unity not only among Luvales but other ethnic groups.

Mr Sichalwe said Chief Kucheka upheld the one Zambia, one nation motto by welcoming other ethnic groups to work or explore opportunit­ies in his chiefdom.

"One of the leadership qualities that the late chief exhibited to the satisfacti­on of government was in upholding peace, unity and harmony among the Luvale people as well as other ethnic groups,” Mr Sichalwe said.

He said Chief Kucheka will also be remembered for partnering with government in promoting local and chiefdom developmen­t for the betterment of his subjects.

"Government wishes to salute and pay special tribute to the leadership style that our late traditiona­l leader exhibited during his reign," Mr Sichalwe said.

Mr Sichalwe appealed to the royal establishm­ent to ensure that the Luvale culture, custom and tradition is followed when choosing the next heir to the throne to avoid succession wrangles.

He said Government is looking forward to a smooth handover of leadership in Kucheka chiefdom.

Speaking at the same event, North-Western Province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu called on the Kucheka royal establishm­ent and the subjects to uphold peace and unity.

"Our late Chief promoted peace and unity and we can only honor him by upholding the peace and unity he so much wanted to see among us.

Mr Mubukwanu said the royal establishm­ent should exhibit unity of purpose for the betterment of the chiefdom.

Establishm­ent secretary Kasupa Kayawe appealed to Government to honour the late Chief by completing all developmen­tal projects he advocated for his chiefdom.

Mr Kayawe cited the completion of the Kucheka palace which has been at foundation level for a long time, the completion of Liyovu Secondary School and constructi­on of a mini hospital to service the close to seven thousand people in the chiefdom.

Senior Chief Ndungu's Prime Minister, Patrick Fumbelo thanked government for its continuous support to the Luvale people during trying moments.

Mr Fumbelo called on the Luvale people to maintain peace and unity amongst themselves.

He said succession wrangles that have rocked most chiefdoms are detrimenta­l to developmen­t.

Chief Kucheka 76, who was born Benson Kaumba Sakumenya died at Chitokolok­i Mission Hospital on, after an illness.
