‘DISRESPECTFUL’ UPND MPS CANED
THE opposition UPND in Northwestern province has been exhibiting disrespectful behavior towards traditional leaders , former PF provincial chairperson Jackson Kungo has charged.
Mr Kungo charged that the misconduct by UPND Members of Parliament (MPs) exhibited on Chief Ishima of the Lunda people of Zambezi was uncalled for and unjustified.
He said the chief had every right to complain about lack of development in his area because he has a responsibility to ensure that his subjects partake of the national cake.
Mr Kungo observed that the MPs should have advocated for the provision of health facilities, roads and schools in the area.
He said the cry of the Chief about the MPs who had not lobbied for development in Northwestern Province was realistic and needed serious introspection.
He said Government had demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt commitment to deliver development to all parts of the country, including to opposition strongholds.
In North-western Province, he said, the Government had delivered development such as the rehabilitation of the Solwezi-Chingola road, the Solwezi Bridge with the dual carriage way, the Solwezi Kipush road which is under construction and the connection of districts to the national grid.
Mr Kungo said other development projects were the solar power project in Chibwika Chiefdom, the communication towers which have improved the network in the Province, the upgrade of primary schools into secondary schools and the construction of health posts and Mini Hospitals.
"President Lungu has always invited opposition MPs to work with his government to deliver development. But instead they just sit back and enjoy the title of MP without lobbying for development.
“What is realistic is to ensure that in 2021, all seats in the province go to PF so that the requisite development is taken to the area because only a sitting government will deliver to its people,” he said.
Mr Kungo said this in reaction to Kabompo MP, Ambrose Lufuma, who labelled Chief Ishimaas dull for saying the MPs have not performed according to expectation.
He has since called for the Chiefs to be accorded the necessary respect they deserve by the UPND in the province.
