UPND accuses PF of early election campaigns

- By ANDREW MUKOMA

THE UPND in Southern Province has accused the ruling party, PF of launching an early campaign mode at the expense of inspecting government projects.

The UPND leadership in the province says, it was not happy that President Edgar Lungu and some cabinet ministers have been visiting various parts of the country on the pretext of inspecting government projects when in fact campaigning.

The party was worried that the move by the PF leaders was disadvantaging the opposition by refusing to grant them an opportunity to mobilise in their political parties in the name of Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr Neto Halwaba, the provincial information and publicity Secretary said in a statement that the playing field must be equal.

Mr Halwabala said, “We are getting concerned with Mr Lungu’s unguarded and careless statement especially being a year Zambians go to the general polls on 12 th August 2021.”

“The nation has also noted with concern that his (President Lungu)’ schedule in the name of working visits is full of elective motive which is disadvantaging the opposition,” Mr Halwabala said

“If however, the PF leadership wish to go and visit many places unannounced, they would experience how the Zambian people are suffering and advise them to leave power to inspiring and innovating political parties like the UPND,” Mr Halwabala lamented.

He warned that his party was not going to watch the PF destroy the country’s democracy.

“This is not what the Zambian people know of true democracy within political parties and the nation at large,” he said
