MORE WOMEN APPLY FOR POLLS ADOPTION

- BY SANFROSSA MANYINDA

THE number of female politicians showing interest for adoptions in the August 12 general elections is encouraging, Women for Change ( WfC) has said.

Women for Change is an organisation that works to build the capacity of rural communities especially women and girls to achieve sustainable development.

WfC Executive Director, Lumba Siyanga, has since urged other advocates to keep on calling on political parties in the country to adopt, support and embrace more women ahead of the elections.

Ms Siyanga said it was important that the Patriotic Front (PF) and the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) embraced women to send a good example to other political parties that were emerging.

Ms Siyanga was speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation in Kitwe. "It is high time for different political parties to show willingness to work with women by providing a conducive environment for them to thrive.

"The campaigns and advocate for women adoption is so encouraging for female politicians to seek adoption for different elective positions," she said. Ms Siyanga said it was elating to note that women were receiving a lot of support from different people across the country.

She called on women to stand up and position themselves now as soon as they could so that they could be recognised.

She said women when given a chance were able to deliver and push the development agenda of the country forward.

She said that a country that left out women in key leadership positions would not develop because it would mean that 51percent of girls and women were left behind.
