NKWAZI ARE ZAVA OPEN CHAMPS

NKWAZI Volleyball Club are the champions of the just ended 2021 Zambia Volleyball Associatio­n Open tournament held at the OYDC Zambia Sports Developmen­t Centre in Lusaka over the weekend after beating Kabwe-based Prisons Leopards by 3-0 in the finals.

And in the ladies category it was Kamwala Magic who emerged champions after beating Red Arrows 2-1.

Nkwazi coach Arnold Simulezi said he is inspired to now collect more medals for the Zambia Police Service-sponsored side.

“I congratula­te the boys for the good work, remember we lost our first game to Buffaloes and we were not sure if we were going to win the final, we have just started the season, we want to work hard so that we win more for our institutio­n, Zambia police,” he said.

And Barry Maluti, the Prison Leopard's coach said it had been a good outing and a lot of lessons had been leant.

Zambia Volleyball Associatio­n president Nakaonga Kakoma has described the tournament as a success because nine ladies teams participat­ed and 13 men‘s teams.

The winners for both men and women categories pocketed a K8, 000 cash prize, a set of jerseys and individual medals with a trophy, while those who came second got medals and a set of jerseys.

Meanwhile, Western Province Zambia Volleyball Associatio­n secretary general Isikanda Mwauluka has appealed to parents not to stop their children from taking part in sports activities.

And Samuel Sinyinza, the owner of Nakonde Volleyball Club said he will do everything possible to see his team compete on a higher level just like the teams in Lusaka and Copperbelt.

He said he will also fuse in two or more players from other clubs to strengthen his squad in the upcoming naments. tour
