12 VIOLENT UPND CADRES NABBED

- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

TWELVE UPND cadres have been arrested after descending on PF cadres at Kyawama market in Solwezi.

The12 UPND cadres disrupted a PF mobilisation and empowerment meeting at Kyawama market which resulted into two PF members being assaulted.

North-western province Commissioner of police,

Joe Njase, confirmed the incident and warned police will not tolerate violence before, during and after the August 12 general elections.

According to Mr Njase, the incident occurred on Monday around 16:00 hours when some PF members were registering marketeers for empowerment when UPND cadres emerged and pounced on their opponents.

He stated that his officers would not tolerate anyone and were prepared to police the general elections.

"What people should know going forward is that committing crime in the name of politics will not be tolerated at all, instead, it will immediately attract police officers’ attention.

“And whoever will involve themselves in such activities will be dealt with in accordance to the law regardless of political affiliation," he added.

He said it was the responsibility of every citizens under Article 43 (a) of Zambian Constitution to be patriotic and promote development and peace as well as good image.

Mr Njase explained that the empowerment funds were coming from the PF Solwezi central aspiring candidate Jackson Kungo.

"So, the UPND carders termed that as campaigning and prompted them to beat those who were organising and registering marketeers," he added.
