Envoy proposes Japanese language in schools
JAPAN is desirous to ensure that Zambian children start learning Japanese language in schools, says Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Mizuuchi Ryuta
Mr Ryuta said that parents should dream about their children applying for Japanese scholarships for further studies.
He was speaking during the grant contract signing ceremony for assistance for grassroots human security project.
This was for the construction of Chitakata Community School in Kabwe.
Mr Ryuta said that the project was the first project as it would open a new horizon in Japan’s diverse cooperation in Zambia.
“The project funded by
Japan encompasses the construction of two school buildings one by three and one by two classroom, three toilet buildings, a borehole and a water washing station.
“Upon completion of this project, the school will be able to receive 200 more children, numbering in total 400, with the addition of grades eight and nine,” he said.
At the same function, Central Province Minister, Sydney Mushanga, said that once completed, the school would reduce dropout rate as most pupils abandon school due long distances.
Mr Mushanga said only
pupils who can afford to rent houses and able to walk have continued to be in schools.
Meanwhile Kabwe District Education Board Secretary, Zikani Kaira, said the project has come at the right time as most of the children at Chitakata did not have an opportunity to access quality basic education.
Dr Kaira said Government considers education as critical for the countries sustainable development.
He said the $71,246 project would certainly creating access to quality education in the community which answers the sustainable development goal number four.
