Many people have applied for adoption ahead of the 2021 polls
Dear Editor,
THE country’s political landscape is slowly but surely taking a new twist as many people are vying for various positions ahead of the 2021 general elections slated for August 12.
Many people have applied for adoption on various political party tickets. This scenario is the same whether one is standing on the ruling party ticket or on the opposition political party ticket.
You would notice that more than ten aspirants could apply for adoption for a single seat to contest as councillors or Members of Parliament (MPs).
The high number of people vying for political positions in this year’s general elections can be attributed to the desire for people to serve following the current leaders’ failure development.
It is true to mention here that some of the current councillors and MPs have not performed to the expectations of the electorate. This is disappointing.
There is stiff competition among the people seeking public office in this year’s general elections. It is one thing to apply for adoption and another to have what it takes to deserve adoption.
The aspiring candidate can be in possession of the Grade 12 certificate as a prerequisite for qualification for adoption quite well but the particular individual might not have the leadership qualities.
It is therefore important for the various political parties to scrutinise the aspiring candidates before adoption to avoid mediocre leaders. The people to be adopted as candidates should be those with support at the grassroot.
All in all, it is good that many people have applied for in this year’s general elections. This is what the tenets of democracy entails. ELEMIYA PHIRI, Lusaka. to deliver
