NGO calls for enhanced financial awareness for women

THE Zambia Alliance of Women (ZAW) has called for increased financial awareness and inclusion process among women across the country.

ZAW Executive Director, Edah Chimya, said it was important that financial champions engaged women and youths on the Importance of financial literacy.

“We call for increased financial education, awareness and an inclusive process that will focus on the Importance of ensuring that women especially those from low-income communitie­s are not left behind.

“These women should rather be included in line with our Seventh National Developmen­t Plan - 7NDP,” she said.

Ms Chimya said there was no doubt that special attention to women small holder farmers and communitie­s in mining areas could grow when given the attention they required.

She therefore said it was important that such groups were empowered with financial education and capacity building.

She said this would in turn result in increased Knowledge, Skills, change in attitudes and behaviours.

Ms Chimya applauded the resilient women and youths who amid the present economic hardships caused by Covid-19 had continued to serve for the betterment of the households and communitie­s they lived in.

“Today, ZAW celebrates the digital financial services like Mobile money and Mobile banking that have exhibited the capacity to reach more people at lower costs. “The services have been user friendly and even more accessible deapite the having the Covid-19 pandemic in our amidst,” Ms Chimya said.
