Italy trains Zambia’s security officers in cyber security
AS debate around the cyber security law rages, the Italian embassy in Zambia has offered a special online course on crime detection and management in the cyber space cyber to Zambian security officers.
The training by Luuis University is being conducted at the Italian International School in Lusaka.
Italian Ambassador to Zambia, Antonino Maggiore, was happy that the Zambian
Government had enacted the cyber security law.
Mr Maggiore pledged his government’s continued support to Zambia in ensuring that there was sanity in the cyber space.
Luiss University Professor and former Italian Justice Minister Paola Severino said cyber security was essential in today’s social and economic development.
Prof Severiano said it was important for countries to develop cyber security competences to be able to detect cyber-crimes and their locations.
And speaking when he officially opened the training, Home Affairs Minister, Stephen Kampyongo, said the programme came at a critical time when Zambia had just set itself ready to take charge of its cyber space.
Mr Kampyongo said that cyber-crime has been growing slowly in Zambia and some people in communities were victims of the crime.
He said training of security officers in crime detection and management in cyber space would play a critical role in increasing their knowledge and saving citizens from any form of cybercrime.
The minister said it was
Government’s duty to protect citizens from any form of abuse including cyber bullying and all those opposing the law did not mean well for the country.
He said the country now has sufficient laws to protect citizens from any form of cyber bullying.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja, said understanding modern technology was important for modern day policing as crimes were committed through technology from the comfort of people’s homes.
He said this through Commissioner of Police for Administration Lombe Kamukoshi.
