CB UPND disenchanted members back PF aspiring candidate

- By ROGERS KALERO

SOME UPND supporters have hinted that they will support Patriotic Front (PF) Chimwemwe constituency aspiring candidate Allen Banda because of the confusion which has rocked the adoption process in their political party.

The UPND members, who did not want to be named, told the Daily Nation the they were contemplating supporting Mr Banda in the August elections because he had proved to be down to earth and humble.

Last month, some UPND officials from Chimwemwe defected to the PF and pledged to support Mr Banda because even before he could be elected member of parliament, he had demonstrated good leadership which had inspired them.

We have hinted this to Mr Banda and we are yet to discuss every thing in details. So far, we think it us much better to be in PF than to be UPND. If UPND stalwarts like Charles Kakoma can leave UPND, who are we,” they asked.

The UPND supporters said the adoption process was marred by corruption and tribalism hence their decision to consider supporting Mr Banda and President Edgar Lungu in the August elections

"the truth is that there is a lot of tribalism and corruption in the adoption process. This is why we want to support Mr Banda and President Lungu,” the UPND members said in an interview.

"We have hinted this to Mr Banda and we are yet to discuss every thing in details. So far, we think it us much better to be in PF than to be UPND. If UPND stalwarts like Charles Kakoma can leave UPND, who are we,” they asked.

And when contacted for a comment, Mr Banda said he had received such information but was yet to meet them and discuss everything.

"I can't say much for now, I will say much more at an appropriate time when we organise a big thing when they officially join the big family of PF under the humble and mature leadership of President Lungu," Mr Banda said.
