NAD calls for inclusion of persons with disabilities in development agenda
THE Norwegian Association of the Disabled Zambia has called on Senanga to include persons with disabilities in its development agenda.
Association Programmes Officer, Carolyn Cheelo said the inclusion of persons with disabilities at all stages of development, is key in ensuring that they are not left behind.
She said it is important that those with disabilities do not feel left out in any activities taking place in the district and the country at large.
“The country is promoting the leaving no one behind agenda hence it is important to include the people starting with the planning stages of every project both in the private and public sector,” she said.
“We are happy that through the meeting the stake holders in the district are willing to take the inclusive development agenda ahead,” Mrs Cheelo said.
Meanwhile, District Disabilities Network member, Manyando Mwenda has called on persons with disabilities to take a positive approach in life in order for them to excel.
Mr Mwenda advised that the first step is to accept the disability and ensure it is used with a positive attitude towards achieving goals.
“I became handicapped while serving in the Police Service but I have managed to continue with my education and work because I accepted my condition,” he said. Mr Mwenda further encouraged those with disabilities or with disabled children not to hide their conditions as they can only get assistance when they open up.
And another member, David Kabangu said different line ministries should put across activities that focus on the development of person with disabilities.
Mr Kabangu noted that by putting policies that support people living with disabilities, it will be easier for them to access services in all ministries.
The Association conducted a two days meeting with Community Based Inclusive Development network and other stakeholders in Senanga District in order to find ways of promoting inclusiveness of persons with disabilities in all sectors. - ZANIS
