Stop candidates splashing money, Kaumbwe residents demand

- By NATION REPORTER

A PF parliamentary aspiring candidate in Kaumbwe Constituency, with Chinese links has continued to dish out money to electorates against party orders, the Daily Nation has learnt.

The candidate has also been buying residents of Mwanjabantu Chiefdom beer and other goodies on the belief that he would be adopted by the ruling party.

Some residents have however protested against the candidates’ continued use of ‘desperate’ tactics to hoodwink voters.

Mr Peter Mumba of Zumaile Village has appealed to PF leadership to step in and stop this as it was going against party rules.

Mr Mumba said aspiring candidates should campaign with ideas and tell people what they would do once ushered in to office not buying their way to the top.

He said the candidate

This is not in order and the party has stopped this kind of campaigning where candidates just splash a lot of money to residents without telling them what they will do for them if elected,” he said.

had been buying residents beer and splashing goodies on the pretext that he had already been adopted even before individuals who had been picked for Eastern Province were announced.

Mr Mumba said individuals who were not popular on the ground should not be adopted despite the amounts of money they were committed to pump in.

“This is not in order and the party has stopped this kind of campaigning where candidates just splash a lot of money to residents without telling them what they will do for them if elected,” he said.

He said it was important for the party to reward loyalty by picking people who have stood with the party for many years and especially those who applied in 2016 and were not picked but continued supporting the party like the grassroots, favourite, Jimmy Lungu.
