HH MERGES WITH KBF, MUTATI GROUPING

- By IRVIN MUYUMBWA and SENIYA BANDA

AS EXPECTED, the Osida scheme has come to fruition with the merger of UPND Alliance with the Felix Mutati-led coalition, The Zambia We Want.

The merger got cold feet and failed to announce a running mate, although the Daily Nation has information that UPND has already settled for Mr Mutati.

The Zambia We Want Alliance is a political movement recently launched comprising Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) led by Mr Mutati, Zambia Shall Prosper under Lusaka lawyer Kelvin Bwalya Fube together with two other political parties and the UPND Alliance led by Mr Hichilema.

And speaking at the unveiling of the merger yesterday, Mr Mutati said the decision to merge was to serve Zambia before individual and party ambitions.

Mr Mutati said there is need to urgently work on the economy to create a direction that sees the aspiration of Zambia becoming a middle income country is achieved through the alliance movement.

Mr Mutati, a former Minister of Finance in the Patriotic Front government, said sectors of the economy which include mining, energy and agriculture will be prioritised as critical components of the economic recovery.

He said in mining, there will be need to relook the taxation structure to motivate investments into the sector and also increase production

Mr Fube charged that there is a breakdown in the rule of law which has the potential to make the country dysfunctional.

Mr Fube says the rule of law has broken-down and has been defeated by a few politically inclined cliques thereby denying citizens their fundamental freedoms and now living in fear in their own country.

Meanwhile, Mr Hichilema says the alliance is determined to ensure that the challenges the people are facing are resolved.
