- By JOHN KOMBE

GOVERNMENT

has allocated 17, 792 packs for farmers in Chongwe in the Farmer Input Supply Program (FISP) for the 2021/2022 farming season.Chongwe District Commissioner (DC), Robster Mwanza, said that the number of farmers was higher because of the strategic importance that the government places on Chongwe.

He said that the district was the food basket of the province and as such was a priority in terms of agriculture input support.

Mr Mwanza therefore urged all the farmers in the district to ensure that they deposit their contributions in time.

He said that this would enable the farmers to access the inputs early.

According to him, the district had received most of the inputs and would soon flag off the distribution exercise.

The DC observed that the early distribution of fertilizer by Government was unprecedented and must be commended.

He said that Government had contracted three companies to supply the inputs to the district. He named the companies as Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia NCZ which was expected to supply 351.91 tonnes of D Compound fertilizer, Rock Life limited contracted to supply 8, 393.80 tonnes of Urea Fertilizer and Alpha Commodities Enterprises which would supply 3, 766 tonnes D Compound fertilizer.

Meanwhile, Chongwe Member of Parliament, Japhen Mwakalombe thanked was happy for continued support to the small-scale farmers in Chongwe.

He observed that the early input distribution would help farmers to plan their agriculture activities well.

According to him, the early distribution of inputs was proof that the Patriotic Front government was committed to enhancing agriculture production. He said that early input distribution was one way of ensuring that the nation was food secure. The MP said that the farmers would receive the inputs through the direct input supply method.
