Dundumwezi empowered again
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has empowered villagers in Dundumwezi constituency in Kalomo with a light truck and an assortment of equipment and other facilities.
The Head of State donated sewing machines, hair dryers and blowers, balls, assorted pots, a borehole, a Hino truck for the chiefdom and bicycles for headmen.
Southern Province Permanent Secretary, Joyce Bwacha, presented the items to the villagers on Sunday.
Despite President Edgar Lungu receiving less than 300 votes in 2016 in Dundumwezi, his Government has continued to empower the villagers with myriad developmental projects.
In presenting the items to Chief Chikanta in a colourful ceremony, Ms Bwacha said Government recognized that a country could only develop if its citizens were empowered.
The presentation ceremony was attended by Kalomo District Commissioner Brenda Mwenda and other senior Government officials. “As you are aware, Government has embarked on empowering various categories of Zambian citizens who include men, women, the youth, marketeers, various vulnerable groups, and the church.
“The challenges being faced by most of our people today are enormous, more especially coming from the effects of the corona virus. Therefore, the need for a holistic approach to develop comprehensive interventions such as the various multisectral empowerment programs like what is happening today,” she said.
And Chief Chikanta thanked the President for the gesture and called the empowerment the ‘presidential gift’ which everyone was so proud of.
The chief delightedly received a Hino truck worth K293,000 for villagers in his chiefdom and 45 bicycles for the headmen,
In giving a vote of thanks, Senior Headman Simakanta thanked the President for his gesture and said his work would now become easier.
