‘Sangwa wants to create a crisis’
STATE Counsel John Sangwa wants to cause unnecessary constitutional crisis in his bid to have the constitution clauses changed using the back door, the Evangelical Youth Alliance (EYA) has charged.
EYA executive director, Moses Lungu, said it does not make sense for Mr Sangwa to champion constitution changes through court petitions when he was part of the people that sabotaged Bill 10 which was aimed at correcting some lacunas in the law.
“Mr Sangwa is creating unnecessary constitutional crisis. When Parliament was active, Government moved the motion, an amendment bill to make clarifications on passages of the constitution where there were lacunas.
“And deliberately, Mr Sangwa and his team sabotaged the process which could have actually provided the opportunity to address the issues that he now wants to champion as an individual using the courts of law,” Reverend Lungu said.
He said in an interview that what Mr Sangwa was trying to do was to use the back door to change the law.
“All these petitions you are seeing are meant to change the law. He wants to single-handedly create a law of precedence by means of judgement that the court will deliver,” Rev Lungu said.
He however urged the judiciary not to allow itself to be abused by people who did not mean well for the country.
“We want to appeal to the judiciary to avoid the attempt that is being posed by Mr Sangwa who does not mean well. It is not long ago when he called the same judges names over a certain judgement which did not go in his favour.
“We don’t understand why he is entertained. The court should not allow to be abused by Sangwa whose nationality we do not know,” Rev Lungu said.
