6 murder victims identified

SIX bodies of the nine victims murdered by an inmate at Mukobeko Correction­al Facility have been identified by the relatives.

Central Province Police Commission­er Chola Katanga announced the identifica­tion of the bodies to the media.

The victims are Elizabeth Kazadi 43 , Pricilla Kafumbo-aged 41 and her grand daughter Naomi Namukulwa aged six months from Kitwe.

Others are Doreen Nyambe, 29 from Lusaka who is wife to a truck driver, Mrs Mombota aged 51 from Mongu and Virginia Chanda of Chingola.

Martha Kafumbo young sister to Elizabeth and Priscila described the gruesome murder of her sisters in February

as a huge blow to the family.

Ms. Kafumbo commended the police for uncovering the mystery surroundin­g the

death of her sisters who she said were breadwinne­rs of the family.

"The case of my sisters was the first to be reported and the police seemed reluctant to follow it up but became serious when more cases of the same nature were reported. We thank them for discoverin­g the bodies of our relatives,” she said.

And Kabwe district commission­er, Sam Lupupa described the incident as unfortunat­e and assured families of the victims of government's support during the mourning period. Mr. Lupupa said when he addressed the families of the victims in his office that the government was mourning with them.

He also commended the families for having trust in the police and assured government would ensure that justice prevails over the matter.

"What transpired is unfortunat­e but we thank the police for the job well-done, if not for them this unfortunat­e incident would have remained a mystery," he said.
