JCTR to engage media on sensitisation drive
We note that there are areas where we are recording political violence and this we realize is not something we want to see in our country. And during campaigns, people must realize that there is life after August 12 and also we realize that there are a lot of key stakeholders in peace building just like the media.
THE Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection ( JCTR) has announced its engagement with media in the country to sensitize Zambians on the dangers and effects of political violence.
JCTR programs officer John Kunda Sauti says the engagement has come through after the realization that the media is a key stakeholder which interacts with the masses in the community.
Mr Sauti told the Daily Nation in an interview in Livingstone that the media has a role to play in community peace building especially now that the country is preparing for an election.
“We note that there are areas where we are recording political violence and this we realize is not something we want to see in our country. And during campaigns, people must realize that there is life after August 12 and also we realize that there are a lot of key stakeholders in peace building just like the media,” he said.
“We want to interact with the media and find a lasting solution to this problem of political violence and seek solutions,” he said.
“As JCTR, we have realized that the media interacts with the people on the ground because that is where they get the source of information and also media have the duty to educate,” he said
Mr Sauti said his organization wanted the media to engage the community in educating and sensitization on the dangers of political violence.
