‘KK LAID FIRM FOUNDATION IN MINING’

- By NATION REPORTER

FIRSTRepublican President, Kenneth Kaunda, and his UNIP Government laid a firm foundation for the mining industry in Zambia, says Grizzly Mining Limited Vice-Chairman, Abdoul Ba.

Mr Ba said in Lufwanyama yesterday that the late President played a major role in laying a firm foundation for mining in the country, which was thriving up to now because successive Governments had continued caring for the mines and improved on policies.

“We are saddened about the death of Dr Kaunda, the founding father of this nation, and we are aware that he played a major role in laying a firm foundation for the mining industry in this country. It is a big loss not only to Zambia but to the world as well,” he said.

Mr Ba said the late founding father had a big heart for all Zambians, Africans and other nationalities in the world, hence his legacy would continue standing out on the international stage.

He said Dr Kaunda was a firm believer in the preservation and protection of natural resources such as minerals because he appreciated the value, which needed to trickle down to the local people.

“Grizzly Mining Limited mourns with all Zambians and the rest of the world on the loss of the father-figure and world icon, who served Zambia and Africa selflessly,” he said.

Mr Ba said it was important to preserve the history of the country and Africa as a whole so that the future generations could understand the origins of freedom and development and also have a basis for reference.

He urged the younger generation to develop interest in learning about history as there could not be success in future without the efforts of people, who fought for freedom and self-rule as well as development in the past.
