‘Ignorant’ aspiring candidates bashed

- By ROGERS KALERO

OUT of desperation for power, some opposition parliamentary candidates are making campaign promises which they have no capacity to fulfil, Patriotic Front (PF) Kantanshi parliamentary candidate Anthony Mumba has said.

He said some opposition candidates have ended up exposing their ignorance on the role of the Members of Parliament (MP) by making campaign promises which were not under the ambit of a parliamentarian.

In an interview in Mufulira yesterday, Mr Mumba said he was surprised that some excited opposition MPs were going on Radio making promises that they would bring Shoprite to create employment and all sorts of promises which were not attainable under the office of the MP.

“You get surprised that a person promising the electorate jobs, when himself he is also looking for a job. These are lies which the electorate must be wary of. Others are saying, if you vote for me, I will construct a road and a bridge. No, that is not true

“They even have gone further to say that I will build a shopping mall and bring investors. What brings investors in the country is the policy of the Government, not an individual MP. They end up exposing their ignorance on the role of an MP,’’ Mr Mumba said.

Mr Mumba said some companies owned by opposition leaders who are claiming to have solutions to the country’s economic challenges were failing to pay their workers, going for many months without salaries.

He said it was ridiculous for an opposition leader to claim to have solutions to the country’s economic challenges when they were failing to find solutions to their firms.

He said opposition leaders who were claiming to have solutions to the country’s problems must first demonstrate their ability to improve running their “limping” companies.

“Zambians must not get excited, but should find out how some of these people aspiring for Presidency are running their companies and how they treat their workers. Some of them are very cruel to their workers and their workers have gone months without getting paid,’’ he said
