Covid: L/stone residents drop guard

- By ANDREW MUKOMA

COMPLIANCE levels among passengers using minibuses on township routes in Livingstone has remained a source of concern.

Many passengers are disregarding the Covid-19 golden rules of masking up, hand sanitizing, observing social distancing and avoiding crowded areas.

Patriotic Front (PF) Livingstone Constituency Youth Chairman, Ikuka Muleta, said if the behaviour continued, the virus would be difficult to control.

During a random check at the bus station yesterday by the Daily Nation, it was discovered that the laxity levels among passengers on the local routes was very high.

Commenting on the issue, Mr Muleta said the laxity was the reason behind the recent surge in Covid-19 cases and urged members of the public not to drop their guard down.

“I want to appeal to people of Livingstone that they should follow the golden rules strictly. Maintaining social distancing, wearing masks properly and washing hands

with soap probably are the biggest tools to win the fight against Covid-19," Mr Muleta said.

He said that it was worrying to note that some people were still in doubts of the Covid-19 despite witnessing the high number of deaths on daily basis.

Mr Muleta said that it was important for every citizen to play their part while Government was doing its part

too, adding that the pandemic must not be politicized by anyone.

And the divers have refused to limit the number of passengers who board their buses, saying that doing so would be costly on their part as the price of fuel was high.

They said that limiting the number of passengers on board would affect their daily operational costs, which could lead to loses.
