Peace and unity vital, says L/stone DC

- By ANDREW MUKOMA

A BOOK of condolences has been opened in Livingstone for the country’s founding father and First Republican President Dr Kenneth Kaunda.

Livingstone District Commissioner Mutinta Matimba Mwanamwalye led Government officials, the clergy, freedom fighters and political party leaders in signing the book in the tourist capital.

Ms Mwanamwalye called on Livingstone residents even as they mourn the Late Dr Kaunda to continue preaching peace, unity and love.

“As one of the founding fathers and a statesman, Dr Kaunda will be remembered for his selfless spirit, he preached love, peace and unity. Unity of the people was the pillar to him.

“He (Dr Kaunda) was a great gentleman on the African continent and worldwide, am sure his praises will be sung and remembered forever. I invited you this morning to witness the opening of the book of

Condolences. So what I want everyone to remember in this, how do we want to be remembered when our time comes,” Ms Mwanamwalye said.

She indicted that One Zambia One Nation was dear to Dr Kaunda adding that his famous song ‘Tiyende Pamodzi’ was sung for all Zambians because he wanted people to move in one accord.

“You will also remember that he was really instrumental to the liberation struggle of SADC member countries. You can't talk aboutbSADC without thinking of Dr Kaunda. He was also the person who

pioneered the fight against AIDS,” she said.

She urged the people of Livingstone to champion the “my tribe is Zambia” tag which aims to promote love, peace and unity regardless of one’s ethnic group.
