Don’t wait until Covid-19 advances, patients advised

- By ROGERS KALERO

PATIENTS presenting Covid-19 symptoms must quickly seek medical attention for appropriate treatment which may save their lives, Kitwe Teaching Hospital (KTH) Senior Medical Superintendent Abidan Chansa has said.

He said some Covid-19 patients delayed to get medical attention, hence drifted into a critical condition quickly.

Dr Chansa was speaking yesterday when the Kitwe business community which included Power Tools, Kumbuka Investments, Truck Mec and Girder Engineering donated 240 blankets to the hospital worth K60, 000.

"As the hospital, we would like urge people experiencing symptoms of Covid-19 to ensure that they come to the hospital early so that they can be given the appropriate treatment. The problem we are having is that people are coming to the hospital when they were

about to get into cardiac arrest.

"We had one case today, where a man came to the hospital and within few minutes, he went into cardiac arrest. So please come to the hospital on time. Don't die alone at home,'' Dr Chansa added.

Meanwhile, Anthony Nkwazi, a representative from Power Tools said the business

community would continue to support the hospital in every way possible.

"We can say we are helping the hospital but we are actually helping ourselves because even us, who are making a donation today, we can be admitted to this hospital,'' Mr Nkwazi said

Kitwe District Commissioner (DC) Chileshe Bweupe said the pandemic was tormenting various sections of society and so it was important that stakeholders joined efforts to fight the pandemic. Mr Bweupe reminded the residents to ensure that they religiously follow the guidelines from the Ministry of Health to reduce the spread of the pandemic.
