Lusambo appeals for peace

- By SANFROSSA MANYINDA

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Copperbelt Province mobilisation coordinator Bowman Lusambo has described as disappointing the confusion instigated by the UPND in Chililabombwe district.

He said it was unfortunate that the UPND decided to go violent at a time when the country was mourning the First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda, who was a champion of peace and love.

Mr Lusambo, who is also PF Kabushi parliamentary candidate said the PF wanted to see all political parties co-exist and not engaging in violence in the run-uip to elections.

He was speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation yesterday.

"I want to assure the UPND that Zambia is a country of laws and peace and everything that is done to destroy the peace cannot be tolerated by any well-meaning Zambians.

"What the people of Zambia want are leaders that will continue promoting peace and selling their ideas peacefully and not those that try to be in power through violent means," he said.

Mr Lusambo said he would travel to Chililabombwe to assess the situation as well as engage all stakeholders to discourage violence in the district.

He said the opposition should be ashamed of themselves for resorting to violence all the time, knowing well that it would not take them anywhere.

He said opposition leaders had a chance of calling for a round table discussion to resolve matters they feel could be affecting them like a 21st century people unlike resorting to violence all the time.

Mr Lusambo advised the opposition not to push the security wings too far just because they were not retaliating.

Police in Chililabombwe arrested eight UPND cadres for allegedly attempting to destroy PF candidate Richard Musukwa’s lodge and residence.
