‘clears’ clamped PeP vehicles

- By NATION REPORTER

SEAN Tembo’s vehicles were released on Friday last week after paying the K100 wrong parking penalty, University of Zambia (UNZA) Vice Chancellor, Professor Luke Mumba has disclosed.

UNZA has dispelled allegations by Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) president Sean Tembo, over his two clamped motor vehicles at the Great East Road campus on Thursday, which he claimed were still being held by the university.

According to Mr Tembo who said he had already instructed his lawyers to take legal action, the PeP entourage arrived at UNZA on Thursday for a scheduled programme on UNZA Radio from 07:30 hours to 09 hours.

He said they informed the security that they had come for a radio programme and asked where they could park their vehicles.

“The UNZA security then directed us where to park and emphasised that we should park on the kerbstone on the right as the parking slots on the left are for senior UNZA management,” said Mr Tembo in a statement

Mr Tembo said access to the parking lot in question was restricted by an access boom and no vehicle could drive inside unless the UNZA security opens the access boom in question.

He claimed the UNZA security allowed the entourage to park in the parking lot and proceeded to open the access boom for them.

“Otherwise we could not have driven into the parking lot in question. When we drove in, we parked exactly where we had been directed to park. If we misunderstood where exactly to park, then no security guard brought it to our attention. But as far as we are concerned, we parked exactly where the UNZA security directed us to park,” he said.

Mr Tembo said there was no security guard available and when PeP people went to the security office and to see management everyone expressed ignorance and that even now the vehicles were still clamped at UNZA.

When contacted, Prof Mumba said contrary to Mr Tembo’s claims the matter was resolved by Friday and that the vehicles were released.
