BENYACHA COMMENDED FOR REACHING OUT TO VULNERABLE
THE Bemba Nyanja Chimbuya Association (BENYACHA) has been commended for reaching out to the vulnerable amid challenges brought about by the corona virus pandemic.
Administrator at the Chilanga-based Mother of Mercy Hospice, Sister Gorett Phiri said it had become rare for the institution to receive support from well-wishers following the outbreak of Covid-19.
She was speaking on Saturday when she received a donation of assorted food items by the association,
Sister Phiri said the institution depends on well-wishers for support and that with the outbreak of the global pandemic, the institution had seen a reduction in support.
“As an institution which depends on support from well-wishers, we are happy that you picked on us because we know that times are hard now but this should be commended because even when things are hard we should learn to give a helping hand to those in need and you have demonstrated that,” Sister Phiri said.
She said the gesture would go a long way in addressing some of the challenges being faced by the institution.
Sister Phiri added that the institution was offering palliative care to the terminally ill patients such as those suffering from Tuberculosis, Cancer and HIV/AIDS among others.
And the association’s national secretary, Mr Elias Chikondi Zulu said they were happy to help those in need.
Mr Zulu said the members seek to promote and protect the traditional cousinship and welfare needs of all members.
Among the items donated included 10 bags of 25kg mealie meal, cooking oil, rice, sugar and assorted groceries.
