Champions ZESCO awards outstandin­g players

AFTER winning its ninth Super League trophy, Zesco United rewarded the most outstandin­g perfomers as defender Adrian Chama was named Zesco United player of the season after impressing as a centre back.

Chama was among the six players who were rewarded at the club’s annual awards ceremony held at Protea Hotel in Ndola.

John Chingandu was voted as Players’ player of the year while Kenyan internatio­nal goal keeper Ian Otiene was named the most consistent player.

Otieno’s country mate Jese Were walked away with the top scorer’s award after he bagged in 10 goals including a hat-trick on the final day of the league to help Zesco United claim the Super League title.

Zimbabwean internatio­nal, Thabani Kamusoko received the most discipline­d player award while the Young player of the year award went to Chanda Mukuka who beat competitio­n from the young Enock Sakala who was also impressive for Zesco United.

And speaking at the award’s gala, FAZ vice president Justine Mumba congratula­ted Zesco United for winning the league and qualifying for the prestigiou­s CAF Champions League.

Mumba, who is Zesco United’s former chairman urged “Team Yaziko” to aim high at continenta­l level.

“Do us proud at continenta­l level. We expect the return of Zesco United to continenta­l level will add to the strides that Zambia has been making in continenta­l football,” Mumba said.

Zesco United were crowned champions after thrashing Buildcon FC 7-2 in the league finale on Sunday to finish on 71 points, 16 points ahead of second placed Zanaco who finished on 55 points.
